First Episode and a Bonus Episode!

Well, I must say I have impressed myself, in the last week and a bit I put my nose to the grindstone and hammered out a couple fun segments and the FIRST REAL EPISODE OF SOME THINGS ABOUT MARY! I’ve gotten some good feedback, my mum and Pa think it’s the best thing out there. They’re totally non-biased. A couple of my friends have gotten back to me with some really kind words. I’ve got to write an “Episode 2” (insert whatever Star Wars joke you’d like here), I think I will continue with the “Pets” saga as there are further entries regarding my turtles. I loved those little turtley bastards.

I also released a bonus episode featuring a short story, written in Grade 3 by myself and my classmate Sean. It’s a thrilling tale you really don’t want to miss. With the sentence structure of a toddler’s Lego tower, you may be extremely confused about what is going on. So am I. So are we all.

Thanks for sticking around folks! Safety first, then teamwork.

Prepping First “Full” Podcast Episode

I’m getting ready to record the first episode with a real journal entry. I have a journal from Grade 3 that we were made to write in for class. I am eight years old at the start of this journal. The first topic we had to write about was “My Pets,” these entries take an alarming sharp turn near the end; I will be bringing this up with my therapist. Hahahaha but seriously. We will also hear from The Love of My Life – Sarah – and get her hot take on what these entries mean to her (she will be the first in my guest segment called “Mary’s Pop-Ins”).

As usual “I’ve got that excited scared feeling, like 98% excited 2% scared, or maybe it’s more, it could be 98% scared 2% excited, but that’s what makes it so intense…”

Owen Wilson as Oscar – Armageddon (1998)

I’ve written a rough draft for the episode and I’ll start recording today!

Safety first, then teamwork.

Starting a Podcast

I’ve decided to start a podcast, it is called “Some Things About Mary,” it will be all about my life – this is the only original topic I have: Me. I have journals from elementary school, family vacations, middle and high school. I also have some of my school report cards and poetry from all ages. My journal entries end around 2015 – it’s an oral history after that.

I plan on contacting some of my old teachers to see if A) They remember me B) What they remember about me C) What they thought would happen to me. I also plan on having guests from the different eras of my life. My guests will be referred to as “Mary’s Pop-Ins” (thanks for that one mum).

So far I have released a trailer for the podcast, and I’m currently working on a mini episode that will further explain what “Some Things About Mary” will be about.

That is all. You are free to go.

What.

Hello….. mostly self. I’m having a hard time being motivated right now. My anxiety has increased over the last month due to… well…. 2020. The absurdity of it all is overwhelming and, even as a Canadian, the uncertainty of the U.S. election is frightening. I’m not usually left speechless, but I’m not sure there’s much else to say that hasn’t already been said about 2020. I am still waiting for the Murder Hornets to re-emerge…. that just felt like foreshadowing, they’re comin’.

I’m keeping an eye on these bastards.

It’s a “novel, tumultuous, uncertain, unprecedented” time. I know I have it easy compared to millions of other people out there. I’m trying to keep things in perspective. Until the Murder Hornets get here, it could be much worse.

I’m an Aunt!!

Lucas!!!!!

I became an aunt on September 10th to a healthy baby boy!! Lucas William is my sister’s first child and they’re both doing very well. It was kind of crazy, she was due for a section on the 15th and had just booked it that morning. We live very close so she texted to see if I was home as she was having contractions, her husband was running errands, and was on his way, but she needed help getting ready to go. The hubby arrived home and they took off to hospital. Around 9:30pm he was born. I’m so excited for they’re little family. COVID made things different and difficult during her pregnancy, barely getting to see our mom (who came out the day after Lucas was born as she has pretty well been isolated from cases where they live). While they were at the hospital, they’re dog, my niece, had to stay with us…. I love her more than air. She’s a little maltipoo and the best little dog.

I’ve also started work again at a cannabis shop! I’ve been learning a lot and trying to get some more income…. also CERB is up soon so I guess I’ll be a functioning member of society again. Some semblance of it anyways.

The short hiatus away from auditioning is over and I submitted one for a kids audiobook last night. It’s a really cute story about a little tabby cat named Tim. My mom brought out all my Magic School Bus books from home for me, I’ll be using to practice most definitely! I’m hoping to get into kids audiobooks, they’re so much fun to read and now I have the audience at home!!

Trying to Find What to Audition for Confidently

I’m going through the ACX titles available for audition, and I’m trying to find things I’m comfortable reading, while still reaching outside my comfort zone. I’ve found a book about Freediving, something I know NOTHING about, but it’s very informative and face based which is in my toolbox. They always say “write what you know” which is the same as “work what you know” in this case. I know how to read. Yaaaassss!!! I have a mouth and a voice and I speak English clearly, otherwise I know nothing about Freediving, in fact, the ocean scares the crap out of me. I’ve gone paddle boarding but I won’t stand up, I’m afraid I’ll be eaten by a whale or a shark, even if it’s accidentally. THEY’RE JUST ANIMALS DOING THEIR THING. Either way, I’m learning a lot everyday as I read different auditions and practice them. Fingers crossed, I have 4 Pending auditions on ACX at the moment!

Learning about ACX and Audiobook Narration

I’ve opened an account on ACX, one of the main sites for freelance narrators to get into audio book narration! I’ve auditioned for a few titles so far, looking mostly a non-fiction and kids books. It’s been a lot of fun! It’s also great because I get to learn all this new stuff while working on my craft. I’m too cheap to pay for the premium membership on here yet, but once I do I’ll add my auditions.
Here’s a photo of my booth setup, it’s super cozy and quiet.
